Back to Odds & Sods

Yes, yes.. it had to happen (is this a Blog??), time to comment on the World News.... Here's where I'm coming from:

bullet

I don't want to be involved in deciding what policies or laws should be enacted;

bullet

Leave that to people who do want to do it - politicians - for whatever (power-hungry??) motives;

bullet

And I don't want to write letters to newspapers - so transitory;

bullet

But this web-site allows me to comment.. so why not..??

Iraq War

bullet

The real problem is.... Israel & Palestine - please get that sorted first;

bullet

Then, United Nations requires Saddam to PROVE - he has to bring evidence to the Inspectors (they must not be detectives and try to find)  - that all biological weapons that he did have.. have been destroyed - and that no new ones (also nuclear) have been manufactured;

bullet

If UN doesn't get that proof - then attack with a united agreement - some UN document which countries sign up to.

Michael Jackson

bullet

I've seen the Martin Bashir programme but not the MJ reply;

bullet

MJ came across as childlike on occasions, at other times very confident, assured, sensible;

bullet

He's had a weird life........ probably (compared to us more pedestrian individuals at least) - so he should be excused (given a bit of slack) when he appears to do weird things.

bullet

March sometime - saw the MJ reply, liked the opinions and comments of the mother of the children. Still reckon - MJ is OK.

Zimbabwe

bullet

Mugabe was (February 2003) being attacked by "the world" for being inhumane etc.. to his own people - where's that story gone to??

SARS

bullet

Lets get some perspective......

bullet

Its killed maybe 300 people in 6 months

bullet

Malaria kills 3,000 PER DAY - in Africa alone

Kazaa, Grokster, Napster

bullet

I liked Napster - and I like Kazaa

bullet

I understand the difference between Napster & Kazaa and recent rulings seem to honour that difference - that Kazaa (for example) has no way of preventing file sharing and doesn't maintain any files itself

bullet

Not happy with the way the music industry is pursuing these companies

bullet

Surely Cassette to Cassette copying back in the '70's/80's was much the same??

bullet

Also now, writeable CD's and DVD's??

bullet

Also VHS tapes (for films etc..)

Kazaa, Grokster, Napster

bullet

It looks like the music industry is now going after "big users" of these programs

bullet

Please.... Music Industry..... don't be negative.....

bullet

Recognise that their (Kazaa, Napster etc..) success is an indication of YOUR failure

bullet

My "All time Top-30" consists mainly of single tracks - more than 200 of them

bullet

I don't want to buy 200+ albums in order to "own" my top-30

bullet

But if YOU could set up a service - where users/customers like me, could define what tracks they wanted - and you'd create the CD/DVD whatever - I'd pay for that

08 September, 2003Tung Che Hwa backdown
bulletI'll probably describe this wrongly - not important
bulletThe Hong Kong Govt tried to bring in some Bill which reduced people's rights
bulletThere were mass demonstrations against the Bill
bulletIn the last day or two - Mr Tung has withdrawn the Bill
bulletWhat's the comment?
bulletBrilliant that the Govt. has backed down - it shows they listen to the people (a bit)
bulletBrilliant that the Chinese Govt. has allowed it to happen - this shows they're patient, tolerant, prepared to obey the Handover Laws/Agreements
bulletBrilliant that Mr Tung has been clear about the whole thing - I think he's a good bloke - saw him along Bowen Road one Sunday afternoon jogging with 1 detective - I gave him the thumbs up!!
bulletBrilliant on the HK Opposition parties that were prepared to be revolting!!

Microsoft et al...

bulletHave just realised (in Asia - months behind the US) - cannot now use Outlook with Hotmail
bulletFor US $20.00 per year I can..
bulletBut Microsoft want (ha-ha) to prevent Spam
bulletAnd the best way for them to do that is to prevent the "back-doors" in Outlook being used by email spammers/virus-producers
bulletWhat's the comment?
bulletI've been here before..... in the early days... 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990's
bulletWhy allow software producers to produce crappy/insecure software??
bulletWhy not just have bloody great Mainframes (Microsoft will own them - and will then have to provide FULL/SECURE facilities/features)
bulletAnd we all have dumb terminals!!
